Synhydrid® is a highly versatile organometallic reducing agent that is safe and easy to handle. It is best known for a number of classic transformations and for its ability to replace more reactive and hazardous chemicals such as Lithium Aluminium Hydride (LAH).

The chemical name for Synhydrid® is Sodium bis(2-methoxyethoxy) aluminium hydride.

Synhydrid® is available as:

• 70% Synhydrid® (standard)

• 60% Synhydrid®

• Modified Synhydrid®

The product is also generically known as SDMA, Red-Al and is 70% solution in toluene.

Key Reactions

REDUCTION REACTIONS

Synhydrid® performs reduction reactions, transforming functional groups by means of hydride addition. It can reduce esters and acids to alcohols or aldehydes, amides and nitriles to amines, lactones to diols or lactols.

A VERSATILE INITIATOR

Synhydrid® is also a versatile initiator in anionic polymerisation of Caprolactam. It can also be used to initiate Grignard reactions smoothly and effectively.
